From Security Sales to Industry Insight
Taylor May didn’t start by building a platform — he started by selling into the field. Early in his career, he worked directly with mobile surveillance, facial recognition, and license plate recognition technologies, gaining firsthand exposure to how solutions perform outside of marketing claims.
That experience shaped his perspective. Rather than relying on vendor messaging, he saw the gap between what products promised and how they actually performed in real environments. Over time, that gap became the foundation for everything he built next.
His career wasn’t defined by one company or one product — it was defined by consistently working at the edge of emerging technology and learning what worked, what didn’t, and why.
Why the Trade Show Model Falls Short
Traditional security industry events have long been seen as the place to discover new technology. But according to Taylor, that model has serious limitations — especially when it comes to real decision-making.
| “If you’re telling me that you have to pay these outrageous fees just for others to know that you still exist as a company… and you don’t know what your ROI is… what are you doing?”
Trade shows are expensive, crowded, and often disconnected from real-world application. Vendors invest heavily in booths and travel, but rarely gain meaningful insight into how their products perform in actual environments.
At the same time, end users struggle to evaluate solutions in a meaningful way. Watching a demo on a screen or walking past a booth doesn’t provide the context needed to make confident decisions.
The result is a system where visibility is prioritized over value — and where real evaluation rarely happens.
Building the SVIP Security Experience Center
To solve that problem, Taylor is building the SVIP security experience center — a facility designed to replicate real-world environments where technology can be tested and understood in context.
Rather than booths, the space is organized into vertical-specific environments like retail, healthcare, casinos, and public safety. Each area is designed to show how different technologies work together inside the environments they’re actually used in.
| “We’re mocking up vertical environments… so if you have a product that works in those environments, let’s actually see what it would look like.”
This approach changes how security solutions are evaluated. Instead of imagining how a product might work, visitors can see it operating in a realistic setting. That shift creates better conversations, stronger understanding, and ultimately more confident decision-making.
Creating Real-World Evaluation and ROI
One of the biggest challenges in the security industry is measuring return on investment. Many companies participate in events and marketing efforts without a clear understanding of what they’re getting back.
The experience center is designed to change that by focusing on outcomes instead of exposure.
| “We want people to drive business and close deals at our experience center.”
By bringing end users directly into a controlled, hands-on environment, the focus shifts from passive observation to active evaluation. Decision-makers can compare solutions, ask better questions, and see how different technologies perform side by side.
That level of interaction creates a clearer path from discovery to deployment — something that’s often missing in traditional industry settings.
An Independent Platform for the Security Industry
A key part of the SVIP model is independence. Unlike manufacturer-run demo spaces, the experience center is designed to showcase competing technologies together — without bias.
| “It needs to be completely independent… not a manufacturer or an integrator that has their own showcase room.”
That neutrality is what gives the platform credibility. End users aren’t being guided toward a single solution — they’re being given the information and access needed to make their own decisions.
At the same time, manufacturers benefit from continuous exposure instead of short-term events. Their products remain in the environment year-round, creating ongoing opportunities for engagement and education.
The Future of Security Technology Innovation
The timing of this shift is significant. As new technologies continue to emerge — from AI-driven analytics to advanced detection systems — the need for real-world validation is only increasing.
The SVIP security experience center represents a different approach to innovation. Instead of relying on marketing claims or isolated demos, it creates a space where ideas can be tested, challenged, and improved.
That shift doesn’t just benefit vendors or buyers — it strengthens the entire industry by raising the standard for how technology is introduced and adopted.
