From Modest Beginnings to Entrepreneurial Vision

Craig grew up in Southern California, raised by a single mother who owned a small restaurant. By age 10, he was washing dishes. By 16, he was waiting tables. He later worked in his family’s fire sprinkler business — physically demanding labor that taught him what he didn’t want long term.

That early exposure to small business planted a seed: he wanted to build something of his own.

While studying business at Cal State Pomona, Craig discovered emerging desktop publishing tools and early internet technology. In 1996, he launched RhythmNet — a website promoting independent musicians online, long before digital marketing became mainstream.

He didn’t raise venture capital. He started with $1,300 and a computer.

As he put it:

| “Keep sight on what you want. Go after it. Give it your all. Don’t quit and you will succeed.”

That mindset would define the next two decades of his career.

Where Discipline Became a Leadership Advantage

Craig credits martial arts — specifically Kung Fu — with transforming his mindset at 17 years old. Before that, he admits he was headed in the wrong direction.

Studying Chinese philosophy introduced him to discipline, structure, and self-control. Instead of reacting emotionally to challenges, he learned to regulate himself and focus on improvement.

That discipline carried into business.

He explains entrepreneurship as a daily proving ground:

| “Being an entrepreneur is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

However, passion fuels discipline — and discipline sustains progress when passion fades temporarily.

Craig breaks discipline into three levels:

  • Showing up
  • Being productive
  • Being effective (creating value)

Many people show up. Fewer produce. Even fewer consistently create value.

That difference separates activity from leadership.

The Five Elements of Success in Business

Drawing from Chinese five-element theory, Craig developed his own framework for business leadership and discipline:

Passion → Discipline → Expertise → Confidence → Faith

Each element feeds the next. When balanced, they create growth. When weakened, momentum collapses.

Craig explains that passion fuels discipline. Discipline builds expertise. Expertise develops confidence. Confidence reinforces faith. And faith sustains you when results haven’t arrived yet.

For leaders feeling stuck, his advice is direct:

| “Anything big can happen on any given day that can change everything.”

But only if you’re still showing up.

Faith without action isn’t leadership. Action without discipline isn’t sustainable.

Selling the Business: Visualization, Resilience, and Execution

Craig built his agency by integrating strategy, design, and technology — long before “integrated marketing” became industry language. After years of growth, he decided to sell.

The first deal fell through.

For many founders, that moment would end the pursuit. Instead, Craig doubled down. He began a daily meditation practice, visualizing the exact moment the sale would close — including the room, the documents, even the feeling afterward.

Years later, when he signed the final documents, he recognized the scene immediately.

He describes the moment as manifestation combined with disciplined execution — not passive wishing, but focused visualization paired with consistent action.

Resilience, he explains, isn’t motivational language. It’s daily behavior.

Fighting the Good Fight: Leadership Starts Within

One of the most powerful sections of the conversation centers on internal struggle. Craig argues that the greatest competition in business isn’t external — it’s internal.

Doubt. Fear. Negative self-talk.

The fight is against yourself.

He describes spirit as the combination of thought and emotion — the alignment of mind and heart. When those two work together, leaders can push through uncertainty.

When they fracture, confidence erodes.

For entrepreneurs navigating setbacks, Craig emphasizes disciplined faith:

  • Retain belief in your direction
  • Take consistent action
  • Control your internal narrative

That is business leadership and discipline at its core.
